Not too far from the H. blackburniae site is a rocky hillside sheltering dozens of beautiful H. truncata specimens with interesting oval leaf tips. There the plants grow in heavy clay and sheltered by the surrounding rocks - an amazing place indeed.

Haworthia blackburniae

I encountered this flowering specimen of Haworthia blackburniae on a hike in the Little Karoo recently. I was so taken by this amazing little plant that I didn't spot the exposed roots until I viewed the images some time later - apparently there's more of the plant underground than there is above! H...

Scattered here and there; I was investigating the Haworthia colony before I noticed the bulbines. This whole area is protected from predation by the fierce spines of Macledium spinosum, a member of the daisy family (Asteraceae).

Microloma - Apocynaceae

Does anybody grow Microloma species, especially M. calycina? I encountered this plant high in the Richtersveld one day; it has succulent stems superficially similar to some of the more succulent Ceropegia species - the flowers are very striking indeed:
