Re: Epiphyllum 'German Empress' - spots Solved
It is worth pointing out that under the rules of horticultural nomenclature, a cultivar name for a plant should not be translated into a language other than that under which it was originally established. So this cultivar should always be known as 'Deutsche Kaiserin' and not under the English name ...

Re: Epiphyllum 'German Empress' - spots Solved
Hi Lettie, Most of what we call Epiphyllum hybrids have little or no Epiphyllum blood in them at all. It probably dates from the days when Disocactus or Nopaxochia were often lumped into Epiphyllum. Many in fact were a cross between Discocatus ackermannii (not the hybrid usually in cultivation unde...

Re: Variegated Schlumbergera truncata - new growth colour
I have one myself, so know from first hand experience that the leaf joints will not change colour from white to green or variegated. If the new joint lacks chlorophyll, it will stay like that and any subsequent joints forming from it will also lack chlorophyll. Obviously the fewer variegated joints...

Hi Scubades, It might be worth looking on ebay too (a bit of a risk I know, but I've been mostly lucky with cuttings I have bought). I've also bought from The Cactus Shop in the past and been pleased (link below). Good luck.

Re: Epiphyllum 'German Empress' - spots Solved
I find that the spots only appear if the plant is exposed to the cooler humid weather that occurs in early autumn. I bring it inside to a warm windowsill in late august and it stays spot free. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Thanks Ali Baba - I shall bear this in mind. I'd rather like the unspot...

Re: Epiphyllum 'German Empress' - spots Solved
Disocactus (Nopalxochia) phyllanthoides, of which 'German Empress' ("Deutsche Kaiserin') is more robust form. does produce those spots. It is still uncertain whether it was originally a hybrid, or simply a stouter collected form of N. phyllanthoides that was given a cultivar name. However both...
