Re: Secrets of Namaqualand Succulents Book

Indeed Terry, unless there is a group order; in this case I can manage to have a pick-up point at ELK (visitors would be free to flick through it) where I can arrange to also have some extra books available. I have updated the website and added some previews: https://namaqualand-succulents.com/free-...

Re: Secrets of Namaqualand Succulents Book

Thank you so much Derek and Terry for the kind review, and Jim for giving the links to some of the previews of the book. I'm very excited to see this book come out, especially as it's a self-edited undertaking involving a skilled graphic designer, Catherine Arthur (as an excellent translator, well k...

Re: When is a granite dome not a granite dome?

Best report on granite-domes I've read, Chris!

A lot (most?) of the domes in Namaqualand are gneiss (metamorphosed granite) : they are all very old rocks (>500MY) that went through deep pressure and high temperature before being exposed as domes.

I confirm for Gladiolus equitans.

Re: Specks 2012

Some will be pleased to hear this: I heard that Specks will be closing up their shop in September. That will certainly not stop the demand for habitat-striped succulents, unfortunately... Someone will take over the job. When I read this post, I can only feel sorry for the lack of "educa...

Re: Upcoming long-term (succulent !) project in South Africa

It was part of my project to observe pollinators, so I had time to have many opportunities  I put the camera on a tripod, pointing to a flower, and with a remote control I take the pictures when pollinators approach. This way the camera is always ready to shoot, at any time. Pelargonium caledo...

Re: Upcoming long-term (succulent !) project in South Africa

Thank you Derek, Yes, that's the idea, although the Von Willerts book seems to be very focused on interactions between plants and their abiotic environment (lots of ecophysiology, climate). I think that biotic interactions (pollination, herbivory, parasitism, deception, etc.) should receive more att...
