Re: How to heat my greenhouse

1kW/2kW switchable heaters are cheap and easy to find but the thermostats are not the best. Also, many thermostats either aren't very accurate below zero or simply don't go that low. You might want to experiment and then see if you need to buy a separate thermostat. The 2kW fan-heaters I have looke...

Re: How to heat my greenhouse

That online calculator PeteA found at Jungleseeds is very useful! (tu) I am hoping to obtain an 8' x 12' glass greenhouse in the spring, and the current weather was making me wonder about how I would cope with weather going down to -10degC next winter. Knowing from the calculator roughly how...

Re: What cacti do you buy?

This thread appears to have become an entire Forum unto itself  , covering everything from detailed Pseudolithos germination conditions to the precise use of English plurals. Could we address the issue of how to achieve peace and love in the world too? ;) I understand what you mean, Tina, about...

Re: Seed envelope sources?

I just beat ChrisR to that Amazon supplier of paper "coin envelopes", and now have my 1000 acid free ones on order (3p each). If you want a few, there MIGHT just be the odd spare... You can get ones that are not "acid free" for 1p each. The key phrase (thanks to Forum!) to...

Epithelantha germination advice?

Dear Folks, Poised as I am to sow some of IanN's Epithelantha rufispina seed from the Forum Seed Pool under my lights, I thought it wise to ask for advice in public so that we can all learn together! Searching the Forum turned up the previous mention of a high-day-low-night temperature regime...

Seed envelope sources?

Dear Folks, Apologies for simple-minded question, but where can I get tiny little paper evelopes for storing ~1mm or larger seeds in? A quick Google did not give me the kind of thing I wanted (around 1 square inch size), so I thought I should ask the people :notwo: who are bound to know at once! And...

Re: Cactus help please...

To my naive eye, it looks rather like my Stenocereus griseus (or maybe S. montanus)?

Re: Chinosol

I have used the Kakteen-Hage product before for some years to good effect, and have no reason to doubt that it is the right stuff (correct color, correct pH of solution, correct result on plants), but I have not got any proton NMR data, etc. to check for purity: I will see what I can do on that scor...

Re: South African 'ebay'

I ordered some seeds from there very recently, and there was no problem paying (just identical to eBay), and Seeds-and-All seemed very helpful as a company. The Boswellia neglecta seeds I bought all turned out to be duff (hollow), but they fell over themselves apologising and refunded the money inst...
