I agree with Ernie, Dutch growers use a compost that starts a plant off very well,but general agreement with people in the know will put the plant into a longer lasting and more agreeable compost. My take on it is a compost will hold a plant into its pot.( C&S need a bit of drainage) say grit. F...

Composts again

Years ago most cacti were grown in JI 2/3 plus grit I assume. Along came Tescos finest, and I wonder how many growers use it ?
What does it actually do ? Does it help drainage together with retaining water and there is the weight factor too ? Thanks

But Why ? Many years ago I saved a Mamm. Theresae by grafting it. This all happened when I knew absolutely nothing about grafting and in a state of panic during Winter. Ever since I have kept some stack for grafting. Last year I decided to cut up my three foot long monkeys tail plant, to start anew ...

Grafting advice

I would like to have a go at grafting some cuttings of my monkeys tail cactus ( botanical name too long to print lol). The scions are about one half inches long.
Any ideas on holding scion to stock tightly without damage. Thank you.

Thank you Dave W, slightly out of thread, I am finding my usual supplier of seeds (Sucseed) catalogue this year a bit user un friendly. Could be my age lol, wondered if anyone could suggest another supplier ? Thanks

Yes Cidermanrolls, I also feed my seedlings and they do benefit from it.
For MatDZ, you are correct but as I use the baggie method I do not really get this trouble. Thanks both.
