Re: Carpobritus identification

Just to make matters more confusing, there is another name attributed to the plants that occur in sand dunes in southern europe - Carpobrotus acinaciformis . I have no idea of the validity of such name or, if they are ideed different species, how to tell them apart. As Ian said, I woulnd't get too a...

Plenty of non-cactus succulents there :)
Cacti people are still residual over here, the salads reign. It is however a lot better than, say, 5-10 years ago, when we were precious few. I hope there will be plenty of us left when the fad passes.

Re: Lucky find in Portugal...

Thank you, David. If you had gone all the way down the path to the left on your 3rd photo, you would have find me and we could have chatted. ;)

Incidentally many years ago I exhibited a full pan of flowering Piaranthus at a Birmingham show. It cleared the room.

Re: Stapeliad thread

I have recently decided to try again these things, but I'm still not convinced they're worth the trouble fighting fungal infections and mealies. Here's a mix of genus: Caralluma_rodgersii_Asc014_20180918.jpg Caralluma rodgersii , sprawls around too much for my liking (as several other. Must try a su...

Re: Two-in-One Gasteria question

Hi, have you considered Gasteria disticha? Thank you. :) Your comment prompted me to do what I should have done in the first place: look it up in a proper book (in this case, van Jaarsfeld's). It seems that G. brachyphylla is distinguished from G. disticha by the smoothness of the leaves, and mine ...

Re: Vine Weevil Concentration for soil drench - puzzled.

10ml per 8 litres of water It's not vague, you just have to be able to understand the German instructions  I assume in Portugal you're allowed to use this stuff, as you can in much of Europe? We don't have BI 58 in Portugal, as far as I know. But we do have other dimethoate-based insecticide...

Two-in-One Gasteria question

I received this plant in a lot, as a gift, but it had no name with it. I am assuming this to be Gasteria brachyphylla , but confirmation would be nice (this is question one). Gasteria_brachyphylla_G019_20190324.jpg Question two is about the same plant, as it apparently started to divide dichotomousl...

I do, yes, twice a year; once early in the season (ie first thing) and again in a few months time.

It's the best thing I know to get rid of root mealies.
At what dosage do you use it as a drench, Gerald (and what is the concentration of the product you use)? Information on this is very vague.
