Re: Killermite bug treatment

Abamectin is "translaminar", which means it is persistent and mobile within the surface of the plant, but not fully systemic. It is highly effective against mites, also effective on some insects I've used it and it works well against flat mites. I second this. I use abamectin on the occas...

Re: What do you think this Mamm is!

My first thought was M. hahniana. It might be starting to divide dichotomously on top, which would suggest one of only a handful of species that normally does this, and M. hahniana isn't one of them. Actually, in another forum, there are pictures taken by Wolter ten Hoeve in habitat of a M. hahnian...

Re: Aztekium ritteri from seed

As for Aztekium ritteri itself, as Aiko and Ralph pointed before it is not particularly difficult and it does get faster as it grows. I have also found it is not as slow as advertised, my biggest seedlings bloomed on their 7th year (sown 2014) and showed signs of maturity (adult spines) the year bef...

Re: Aztekium ritteri from seed

Does anybody use cling-film instead of bags? I find the bags a bit bulky, messy and expensive. You can't really reuse them either as they stain. I use cling films and plastic containers found in the stationery section of what I believe you call "pound shops" (we call them "chinese sh...

Re: Sulcorebutia zavaletae

According to rebutia.sk, S. zavaletae is a "proper" species, but all photos I can find do show a plant with smaller heads and a lot less tight spination. :\

Re: Bulbine again

I know how you feel. I lost all my Bulbine bruynsii I sowed myself. They were getting of blooming age and were crowding the pot, so I had to repot them in August. The corns / bulbs looked fine (they are strangly shaped, by the way!), but they never woke up again after repotting. They were all gone ...

Re: Bulbine again

Wonderful plants, Astro. I think I've lost all my B. diphylla this summer, for no apparent reason. :(

Re: Sulcorebutia zavaletae

It's the second time this has happened to me. :D I suppose you saw that picture in my Flickr account, or maybe in my blog. The '139' you mention is my own reference number in the database (actually, a simple Excel worksheet) where I keep my plants' records. I can tell you about that plant that I bou...

Re: Updated seed lists

But the list itself is a tad more unclear I must say, e.g. I couldn't find any explanation of the first column, and there are duplicated positions differing only there (and with the two commas in locality...) like: Z Lophophora 10242 alberto-vojtechii VM 758 Vanegas SLP 0 Lophophora 10242 alberto-v...

Re: Cacti in Portugal

The 0-3mm black (not ideal, but that's the colour they have available) gravel looks decent, the 3-10 is way too big for anything other than ground cover or plant beds (goes without saying that these numbers are not to be trusted too much). I will let you know how much of the 0-3 is usable once the ...
