Re: Taxonomy of cacti

A thorny subject for which there is a great deal of heated argument. But the fact is, there is no correct answer. The concept of "species" does not fit very well with the plants we like to grow, most of which are undergoing evolutionary radiation; and on top of this, there are several different ways...

Re: Calling Crassula experts

Thanks all. Here is the next one, bearing three labels no less! C. brevifoila, C. nudicaulis v. herrei, and C. grisea. Suspect the last is correct?

The flowers on yours look a lot like C. rogersii.
Thanks Elizabeth. Looks like that might be a match- not illustrated in Rowley's book.

Calling Crassula experts

A few years ago I acquired some Crassulas, many of which were clearly wrongly labelled. I've only now started to get down to sorting them out. I don't know much about this genus, other than I've got from Gordon Rowley's book, which is good, but I wish had more photographs and a "confusion species" s...

Re: Beechgrove Garden

Thanks all. They were here from 8am to about 4pm, and a lot of filming done. As well as what was shown I spoke about feeding, source of plants, field collection numbers, cat litter, Plant Heritage, conservation & habitat loss, and various other pests apart from the ones mentioned in the clip but wit...

Re: GH height

My one is Dutch, Venlo style, with a lot of internal bracing. The uprights and diagonals are galvanised steel and there are lattice beams going across from eave to eave. It's pretty windy here too- we regularly get 90 - 100 km/h in winter. The large internal space is proportionately better at retain...
