Was a very bittersweet experience to get a package from Silverhill this morning.

Re: Building greenhouse base

We've since found two more of the b*ggers and a stone otter. My wife insists we don't need another greenhouse just so I can bury them. It was worth a try. I echo your comment Ray - our new greenhouse is a fantastic Rhino model and even our concrete base was not quite level enough for it so we had to...

Re: Building greenhouse base

Our 20ft greenhouse had to go in a spot that dropped 4 feet from one end to the other. We hired a mini digger to level the site. The greenhouse base is two feet below ground level at the end opposite the door (the surrounding soil held back with a block wall) and built up two feet above ground level...

Some flowers from last week

Before the sun disappeared...

The Carpanthea is an annual but I rather like it and am glad I ordered it.

Re: Hotbox Sulfume

Hi Paul, I've been using this on occasions since that discussion. I can't comment on mealy bug as I've never seen one in my collection (I grow from seed or quarantine and thoroughly scrub every plant I buy). It does seem to reduce RSM but had no noticeable effect on some other mites (I had a bad inf...

Re: Opuntia

I got many from Ian Robinson as (very cheap) unrooted cuttings:

Including the rather nice Tunilla below (which he lists as Airampoa boliviensis)

Re: Are'nt these Succulents?

Alpine growers have been attempting these and mostly failing for decades. Sometimes one appears at an Alpine show in flower but very rarely. To germinate the seed you need to soak it for 24 hours in a 500ppm solution of Gibberellic acid (GA3) (you can sometimes buy it on ebay) then put the seeds in ...

Re: Some notes on Massonia species

HI Aiko, I share your interest in Massonia and frequently contribute to the Massonia threads on the Scottish rock Garden Club forum. Thank you for posting the update on taxonomy. I'm currently growing every species (including the summer-growers from the Drakensberg) except M. citrina, which I have n...

Re: Remember these?

I can thoroughly recommend the PVC labels produced by Anglo-Scottish (the stick-in labels, and not the T shaped ones): http://www.angloscottish.net/horticultural-labels-34-c.asp But beware of the postage costs..... The Scottish Rock Garden Club has a member who buys them in bulk and sells them at th...
