Re: Ariocarpus agavoides

I wondered how yours were doing. Here are some I had from you in a swap: They came out in the wrong order and I don't seem able to edit the post. The one showing the fruit was taken in June 2018, the other to-day. They have been flowering for about four years, but it is the first time I've managed t...

Re: An elderly Malacocarpus erinaceus

Super! Is it a very small flower? Or a huge plant? I guess the label tells us the former. I wouldn't call it huge, though it's about 65 years old. It is three inches high and about 3.5 inches across. This flower had just opened. They tend to get bigger after a few hours, and last for two to three d...

Ariocarpus agavoides berries

I've never succeeded in getting these to fruit before, though they have flowered the past two years. I had them from Christer about four years ago in a swap. ASIAriocarpus agavoides unripe fruit 2.jpg This is a very up-tight sort of plant, but the green berry can just be seen. The next one is more l...

No, the colour is fine. The seed leaves just have a reflective surface. If you look at the new growth you will see the colour of the whole - if I had taken it from a different angle.

epicactus x Selenicereus spinulosus

I crossed this two years ago, then harvested the berry and sowed the seed last May. They came up in October. (Epicactus seedlings always seem to come up in the late autumn, but survive the winter happily without watering.) I started watering a month ago, and they are growing quite well. They look li...

Cactus ID needed

No matter how often I tell my friends not to buy me cacti as presents when they are on holiday, they always do. They are never plants that I would buy myself, and it is impossible not to keep them... Can anyone ID this?

To give the scale, the tallest is an inch and a half high.

Re: When to start watering again

I'd better preface this by saying that I live in North London, with its rather strange microclimate. Given that, it depends on the weather (and, of course, the plant!), but I usually water most cacti up until the first or second week in December. On the other hand, I usually don't start watering aga...

Re: Epiphyllum beauty

I've one a bit like it, also in flower to-day. The scent, which is quite strong, is lemon sherbet. What is yours like? The odd thing about this plant is that it attracts greenfly when the flower buds start to swell - though they only attack the flowers. I crush them all with my fingers when I first ...
