Stenocactus hastatus seedling in flower

Stenocactus hastatus. This is only three years old, and I was surprised when it started producing buds last Autumn. The seed was from the seed pool. Eight germinated. This one steamed ahead and grew gigantic. The rest, with the same soil and in the same seed tray, refused to grow larger than a pea a...

I've several others the same age that haven't grown so quickly, but next year I ashould have at least two in flower and with luck will get seed. (...

Re: ID please

For many years I tried to prevent this plant from leaning over and taking up space on bench that I did not have. Eventually I gave up and allowed it to do its own thing lol. I have the same problem with a Pelecyphora strobiliformis. Next time I repot it I think I shall use a trough. It won't solve ...

Re: Echinopsis Oxygona?

The shortness of the spines and the whiteness of the flower suggest eyriesii - but you don't mention scent. It should have a very beautiful, sweet, scent, which isn't strong close to, but pervasive at a distance enough to fill a house! If it doesn't have a scent, it is perhaps a hybrid, possibly wit...

Re: In your opinion, which are the 3 worst pests in succulents?

Root mealy bug? - Immerse the whole pot in methylated spirit for half an hour. Then let it drain out for re-use. It kills them totally and doesn't damage the plant as water might!

Re: Ariocarpus agavoides

I wondered how yours were doing. Here are some I had from you in a swap: They came out in the wrong order and I don't seem able to edit the post. The one showing the fruit was taken in June 2018, the other to-day. They have been flowering for about four years, but it is the first time I've managed t...

Re: An elderly Malacocarpus erinaceus

Super! Is it a very small flower? Or a huge plant? I guess the label tells us the former. I wouldn't call it huge, though it's about 65 years old. It is three inches high and about 3.5 inches across. This flower had just opened. They tend to get bigger after a few hours, and last for two to three d...

Ariocarpus agavoides berries

I've never succeeded in getting these to fruit before, though they have flowered the past two years. I had them from Christer about four years ago in a swap. ASIAriocarpus agavoides unripe fruit 2.jpg This is a very up-tight sort of plant, but the green berry can just be seen. The next one is more l...
