Haworthia summer dormancy

This is the first summer my Haworthias are going through, and I have some questions regarding summer dormancy. Maybe some of you could help. 1) Do they always go through dormancy in summer or does this depend on day/night temperatures? 2) In the latter case, what is the key issue: maximum temperatur...

Tapatalk isn't working for me either, I'm afraid. All the forums appear empty. When I try to see my profile, I get a network error.

Re: New fora? Forums?

Let me disagree with most of you  , but I think this is quite useful, specially for people like me who mainly cultivate plants of a specific genus (Haworthia, in my case). Looking up specific information is tiresome, because not everybody includes the genus in the subject of the post. And some...

Re: Sick Pleiospilos nelii

Today I repotted the Avonia in a soil mix of mostly pumice. Hope this helps, so that the rot does not spread. When I removed the old soil I noticed that it was indeed too water retentive. It had not been watered in about a week, but nevertheless the soil was quite moist, even with the plant growing ...

Re: Sick Pleiospilos nelii

Hi Iann, Many thanks for the advice! I'm really relieved to know that this could just be a cultural problem. I never thought I could be overwatering them. I'm more used to succulents with woody stems, which are less prone to stem rot, I guess. The soil of the rubra and the avonia is the same they ca...

Re: Cactus ID help

Thanks for the quick reply. The mammillaria has indeed been growing inside, near a south facing window, and has not been moved outside until a month ago. There it did get direct sunlight only for a couple of hours a day, and only in Spring. I hope that now that it is growing in full sun all year aro...

Sick Pleiospilos nelii

Hi everybody! I have some questions regarding a couple of Pleiospilos nelii plants that have been attacked by a disease or pest. Hope anyone can help. Sorry for the long message. One of my Pleiospilos nelii v. rubra plants started to become soft and brown, and rotting at the base. As this happened a...

Hello everybody! I need some help identifying these two cacti, please. They are both gifts. None of them has flowered so far. 20180724_174034_IMG_20180724_174034.jpg 20180724_174023_IMG_20180724_174023.jpg 20180724_173952_IMG_20180724_173952.jpg 20180724_173917_IMG_20180724_173917.jpg Best regards a...

Re: Hello from Madrid!

Hi Keith, Thanks for the welcome! Madrid is indeed fine for succulents most of the year. But in Winter it sometimes gets a little bit too cold at night to leave some of them outside (at least unprotected). Until now my collection was small enough to get them all inside, but this year some of them wi...
