Re: C. peruvianus, E. pachanoi or E. peruviana

Hi,
I think I have a picture of the same plant :-)
I think it's a Trichocereus cuzcoensis.

Re: Peru

When travelling with a 'micro' and you see many cacti, you could ask the guide for a short stop. I did it before. But of course do not request an extra stop every hour. When travelling on a larger bus, this will not be easy to request.

Re: Peru

Hi Nick, I have no idea where that trail goes exactly. But when going in a bus from Arequipa to Colca canyon, you could request a stop just after Yura to see the cacti. Then in Colca canyon many cacti grow where tourists come. Same for Cuzco. I have soms pictures of there parts of Peru on my website...

Re: Core collection

Hi Christer, This is a nice topic. I started to focus on small Mexican species and Rhipsalis, but now the last years I started to focus on Peruvian cacti. I went to peru in 2007, when I met my wife. Since then I return to Peru almost every year to visit my family-in-law and make some short habitat t...

Re: Anyone recommend a Thermostat

Dear Geoffrey,

I have a simple plug-in thermostat and till now it works fine. But I assume the model I have won't work in the UK. Perhaps something similar is available? I paid 35€ if I remember well, just to give you an idea of what it costs.

Re: Plant imports & CITES & permits

Hi,
Apart from CITES and a phyto, you might want to declare the parcel prior to arrival with the invoice. Even if you have the CITES and phyto, they could retein the packet till they have the invoive and till you paid taxes on the invoice amount (including postage).

Re: Micranthocereus

Congratiulations on the nice set of Micranthocereus. Post pictures again once they bloom, OK? I'm trying to do the same for Corryocactus, another free flowering genus of columnar cacti almost inexistent in collections.

Re: Cactus budding, ID suggestions please

So the brown marks were burns from the glue? I thought they used to push the flower stems through the body, didn't realise they'd started to use glue. I wonder if anyone has been introduced to the cactus hobby by buying one of these. Stuart - Plantlife Stuart, to be honest, I was :-) That was back ...

Re: Hybridising Echinopsis

Hi Alan, Many factors can be involved, but often incompatibility is an important reason. If you pollinate a long styled plant with polled of a short styled, there are chances the pollen tube won't grow far enough. Also genetic incompatibility plays a role in pollen tube growth. Then there is also th...

cactus with leaves

As suggested by Lithos in this topic http://www.bcss.org.uk/foruma/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=152841 , I decided to start a new topic on cacti with leaves. I'll start with an unusual example of miniature leaves on a Corryocactus, a photo I took last year. http://www.cactaceae.be/fotos/Corryocactus_huin...
