Gymnocalyciums i.d.

I have two Gymnos that I grew from seed that do not agree with the names I have for them. The brown coloured plant is supposed to be nataliae, while the greener plant is apparently platygona.

Anyone is welcome to have a guess at their true identities.

Lithops I.D.

One of my 2022 MSG seed pots clearly wasn't what I thought it was. Instead of Cheirodopsis carol-schmidtii, it turned out to be a Lithops.

I have added some photos in hope that all you Lithopophiles out there can identify them for me.

What Lithops

I showed a packet of MSG Seeds earlier this year that was supposed to be Cheirodopsis carol-schmidtii.
The seedlings certainly didn't look right and one of them recently burst out and is clearly a Lithops. It is about 8-10mm in diameter.

Can anyone suggest a species name for it?

Re: Couple of Gymnos

If you want flowers you can't go far wrong with Gymnocalyciums.
Nice photos!

I would only add that it should be spelled mendozaense. It means it comes from Mendoza province.

Conophytum youngii

I hope to obtain a plant of this recently discovered species sometime soon.
I want to be able to grow it successfully.
Does anyone have experience of this species and do you have any specific advice or suggestions?

I hate Snails!

Earlier in the year I sowed over 70 packets of Gymnocalycium seeds from Volker Schaedlich in Germany. Germination had been pretty good, apart from those in the muscoseminuem sub section. When I went to check on them yesterday a snail had gotten into the 2" pots and eaten most of them! I found t...

Re: First Flowering

Hi Ralph
I've just checked my records. It is GC201.01, acquired June 2004. That must make it about 20 years old.

It makes you realise just how old the mature specimens in habitat must be to have reached over 2 metres and more.
