Re: Grafting on o. compressa - tiles method dilemma
I guess everyone interested in grafting saw that movie where 'guy' (with all my respect) places o. compressa between ceramic tiles. I wonder if there is a reason he uses those tiles instead of (for. ex.) plastic plate or something else thats flat and strong (i'm not too fluent in Dutch :) ) But I a...

Re: hello
Bezza A thin stalk with something on the end doesn't sound to me like a flower/fruit on a cactus. Ferocacti flower at the top rather than down the side. Indeed. Therefor this makes me think (depending on how big 'the thing' is) this is not a Ferocactus at all, although not based on much. But I gues...

Re: hello
and there is a pale yellow fluffy ball on a thin yellow stalk growing from the side of it. My first guess would be a seed pot. Has your Ferocactus been in bloom? Although the yellow seed pots would just sit on top of the plant instead of on the side, and on a thin stalk... Are you sure this yellow ...

Re: Problem: pest?
A few of my cacti are showing what seems to be abnormal growth. This "growth" is always accompanied by a white substance, rather woolly, I have noticed the same with my Euphorbia horrida and Euphorbia schoenlandii, in the top. It accompanies my E. horrida when it is in bloom. It is not wo...

Re: Scented Succulents?
One of my Notocactus really has a strong scent. Not exactly sure what Notocactus it is (It could be Notocactus grossei), but if flowers all through the Summer (as most, I think), but really smells like those rose bushes. Easy to smell when you only pass by. But since the plant is about 40 centimeter...

Re: Offsetting bayeri.
Can you re-root the top part, or will it not shoot off any roots anymore?

Re: Cactus hole dilemma
Hmmmm, difficult one, is the rest of the plant in good shape? It may well die, but better to try and grow it on and hope its sends out some offsets, and start again with one of them. One of my larger Ferocactus of about 40 centimeters has a huge crater, about one quarter of it's mass. You can fit i...

Re: Non cactus winners at zone 15 show
The last photo, what is this plant? My first guess would be a Pseudolithos. It's White-sloanea crassa , a stapeliad from Somalia that's rarely been seen and collected in the wild, and what a superb specimen it is. I've never grown this myself so I don't know how tricky it really is. Thank you. I ha...
