Re: Roy Mottram

I, too, got lots of books from him and quite a number of plants, he had an eye for the unusual and observed things in a different way to most.
Very sad he has gone
RIP, Roy.

Re: Raised cold frames… ok for hardy cacti?

I use a Two Wests set up now, though I made one myself, back in the day, to fit a niche in the garden - not that hard. I like to keep the sides as open as I can, so protecting from rain but allowing as much wind as possible, both to avoid over heat in summer and damp still air in winter. I replaced ...

Re: Loxanthocereus/Echinopsis

Thanks Ralph, I have been confused.🙂
Some Loxanthocereus sextonianus forms are quite long, it's very variable. But I checked the flower which drove me to Haageocereus and thence evidence suggests H. decumbens.

Loxanthocereus/Echinopsis

Hi all, Perhaps I am going mad but I am interested in a name.:-) I recall that there was a mixed collection of plants by Ostolaza, perhaps #94941. This was declared as Loxanthocereus sextonianus. But, in addition to this, there was, in the collection, some Echinopsis - largely indistinguishable from...

Re: Facebook group privacy settings

I agree with Paul D that a significant aspect of the Facebook group is outreach. Making it private would largely eliminate that. Everyone works differently with these things and has their level of comfort and I respect that. Unfortunately it may then miss some good content, but being public is neces...

BCSS AGM - recording

Do we know if the AGM zoom meeting is going to be recorded and made available afterwards? Just be interesting to hear the conversation if we can't make the actual day and time.

Re: Flowering twice from one areole?

Neoraimondia develop a secondary branch which bear the flowers. They appear from the aroles and lengthen from year to year as flowers are produced repeatedly. Whether this is strictly from the same areole, I don't know.🙂

Re: C/s feed

I use Garden Direct. It is from the people who developed Chempac before they sold the brand to T&M. Very similar and cheaper. There are a huge number of ideas about rates and formulations showing that, at least on the short term, it doesn't matter much what you use. Especially if you have soil i...

Re: Green Planet

I don't know all the details but:- Covid restricted the amount of travel they could do, so they augmented the natural film they had with some shots taken in the studio. BCSS members supplied those plants and Ian, at least, supplied them with contacts. Maybe there was more too, I don't know the full ...

Re: One Plant, Two Flower Colors

Dual flower colour plants are not unknown but rare.
Often colours differ because the flowers are different ages and the colour changes with age, but sometimes...
