Re: Importing seeds from the EU to the UK
Many thanks for all your helpful replies, indeed it seems as I expected...no-one actually is sure of the rules! From my personal perspective I find the rules very unclear - I cannot find clear documentation to state either, 1) Seeds can be imported from the EU without documentation. 2) Only a PC is ...

Importing seeds from the EU to the UK
Hi all, I'm aware this topic has been discussed on other threads previously, but it has now become of more importance to me & I am really struggling to be sure of the rules, so I would very much appreciate guidance from anyone here who is sure of the rules. I have made a number of orders of seed...

Freezing non-germinating seeds
Hi all, I'd be interested in any thoughts/ideas about whether this would work. I have sown quite a lot of seeds around 2months ago. I grow my seeds in a grow tent under LED lights, temperature varies between 28-30deg in the day, and 10-15deg at night. and this usually works well for me each year wit...

Re: Polytunnel advice
Many thanks to all that have contributed - some really good and informative posts, especially liking the photos! Thanks also to those of you who have suggested that I could contact you directly - I may just do that in due course! Currently have managed to spot quite a decent greenhouse in good condi...

Polytunnel advice
Hi all, I hope everybody is coping well in lockdown! I’d appreciate your thoughts on the below problem, especially if you have personal experience with using a polytunnel in the UK. I have recently moved house, much bigger south facing garden & in time intend to install a large purpose built gre...

Re: How to treat red spider mite?
I should probably just clarify - the characteristics I have noted were only seen using a high powered magnifying glass, there’s no way you could see this with the naked eye. With the naked eye they appear as just visible brown flecks, I would estimate they are around 0.3-0.4mm in size! A

Re: How to treat red spider mite?
I would also be really grateful if someone with more knowledge than me can confirm the ID of the mite MatDz posted in the picture as I have exactly the same creatures on my plants! Sadly I cannot get a better photo than MatDz as they are so small, although they can be just seen with the naked eye if...

Re: plants from Africa- Passport required?
However on the topic of habitat collected plants... As someone who is still fairly new to the hobby I think I would really struggle to recognise a habitat collected plant. Like others I wouldn't want them in my collection, & I wouldn't purchase a plant if I knew it was habitat collected...but fo...

Re: plants from Africa- Passport required?
Like Ernie I am also a BCSS member (although only for around 3 years, not 40!), and I have also struggled with changing my status on the forum from 'registered guest' to 'BCSS member'. I have followed the steps on the forum to request a status change as instructed, & received an automated messag...

Re: What do you want from the BCSS?
Hi all, I'm a relatively new member of the BCSS having been a member for 3years. I'm a 'fairly' young member I think at 38years old, so perhaps have different needs and ideas compared to those that are older and retired. Overall its been a great experience and well worth the money - if no changes oc...
