Re: Stapeliad thread

My first stapelia flower since I re-started collecting;

Purchased as S. hirsuta, is this correct? (I was expecting more hair)

Re: Please can I have an ID for these two? Thanks in anticipation Solved

Ralph, thanks I think you are right with E. colorata or form of. MikeT, the sedum is in a small pot (6 cm) and the leaves are 6mm long. I have googled images of S griseum but the leaves look longer in relation to their thickness, my plant's leaves seem a bit more 'dumpy' for the sake of a better phr...

Please can I have an ID for these two? Thanks in anticipation Solved

I am trying to get all my plants identified and labeled, one or two have been acquired and lost their ID, or never had one. Any help appreciated. First one a sedum, bought a few years ago and label lost. Slow growing, white flowers I think, and not very hardy. https://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/9/4/1/6...

Re: Vine Weevil Concentration for soil drench - puzzled.

That's the kind of course I've been considering going on myself. Perhaps the BCSS can organise one on behalf of its members. I think you mean a BASIS course, but I don't think that will help you much. I am a retired agronomist and BASIS qualified, so I can advise on agrochemicals (but not apply the...

Re: Veltheimia virus?

I don't heat my greenhouse so I don't think they will survive there. They will, without any problem at all. I keep some of mine inside on a windowsill because they are slow developing from flower bud visible to flower opening (months!) especially if they are not warm. My greenhouse got down to -4 C...

Re: Veltheimia virus?

Yes it's a virus I'm afraid. I would burn the plant to ensure no spread to other bulbous plants, veltheimias are quite tough in my experience, throwing it on the compost heap might not do the job. Also dispose of the soil and sterilise the pot. I have three bulbs which I have not yet planted, I was ...

Re: Chempak fertiliser precipitate/insoluble component

The white precipitate could be lime. Virtually all fertilisers have the effect of acidifying the soil, which can be a problem resulting in high levels of metallic elements becoming available, aluminium toxicity in particular. Not an issue in areas of high water pH, but in other areas on granitic soi...

ID help please!

Can anyone help with the Identification of some seedlings please. I bought a packet of "coloured echeveria mix" seeds from USA via ebay ( yes, I know, should have known better). In due course the expected packet of dust duly arrived, was sown, and surprisingly had very good germination. As...
