Opuntia chaffeyi flowering

Caught this in flower today. Both of my plants are very lax in habit and after putting them in very large pots they decided to flower (approx. 40 flowers on both plants). The tubers show no signs of stopping going deeper and are already pushing the plant out of an 18cm deep pot, I have one larger po...

Re: Wasn't expecting this colour

Thanks for the info. Ray - hadn't crossed my mind. I would have replied sooner, however, I was waiting for my other subterranea subsp. pulcherrima to come into flower and do a side by side comparison as below. IMG_0363.JPG IMG_0364.JPG IMG_0365.JPG IMG_0367.JPG Lastly my subterranea subsp. subterran...

Wasn't expecting this colour

This plant has been budding up for a while and this mornings sunshine triggered this! It is labelled as Opuntia (Cumulopuntia) pentlandii, however I feel the stems resemble Cumulopuntia rossiana as can also be seen in the background. The pictures I have found showing Cumulopuntia pentlandii have a m...

Re: Another Maihueniopsis

I have always assumed that as the plant came from Michael Kiessling in Germany that was his number either collection or accession.

Re: Something to brighten the gloom!!

Ralph; no idea of ultimate height but is currently 12cm or so tall. Flower approx. 8-9cm across and I was surprised to find it open again today when the sun finally broke through during the late afternoon. My experience so far with these large flowered hybrids seems to be a day at the most.

Re: Echinopsis hahniana

Hi Edds This was obtained a few years ago as a small plant similar in size to the flowering example, however, I noticed after 6 months that the base had turned black so the two offsets were cut off and rooted down and a slice above the rot was grafted onto a convenient Echinopsis as per the photo be...

Echinopsis hahniana

Or Trichocereus hahnianus if you prefer. Finally managed to get a flower from this sp., last year the flowers aborted. Approx 5cm across and no scent that I could detect - not sure if its supposed to have? The first two pictures were taken very quickly at about 9.30 pm just as the flower had fully o...
