Re: CITES and cactus seeds: question Solved
As a European I won't give any comment on the British decision BREXIT. As a cactus entusiast and active member of Tephrocactus study group I think it is neccessary to give some comments about CITES and the future. CITES is an international regulation that GB joined in 1980 - before the special EU re...

Re: Too hot for my pterocactus
Hi Chris, this is a bad summer for Pterocacti. If it is hot and you water the plants they will be boiled. The best is to give them as much fresh air as possible. In habitat the plants often loose the offsets in summer - but the root is always in the cool soil. The labels show that the soil and the p...

Re: Pterocactus flower bud (???)
Hi Chris,
as P. kuntzei is a synonym of P. tuberosus it is a flower of P. tuberosus.

Re: Pyyrhocactus umadeave seedlings
Yes, hydrogen peroxid is a good choice to kill many fungi on the seeds. Using acid it is important to have the correct concentration (96%) - the often used lower concentration for car batteries does not help - and the chosen period must be effective (too short - it will not work, too long - the embr...

Re: Pyyrhocactus umadeave seedlings
It is better to wash the seeds before sowing.
I can't believe that the seedlings love the acid.
Greetings Nobby

A thick Echinopsis seems to be a good stock for the future.

Re: Pyyrhocactus umadeave seedlings
If you still have some seeds treat these for 5 minutes with 96% sulfuric acid (handle with care) and you will see 60-80 % germination. Don't ask why but it works. This was the result after 8 month and ~ 50 seeds (5 seeds had been grafted before and they are still living). Eriosyce_umadeave_LasCuevas...

Re: TSG Annual Meeting - 13th May
We just came back from the fantastic TSG Meeting in Coddington and were welcomed by this: Ptero_australis.jpg Just in time for pollination. Perhaps next year we only bring seeds. Elisabeth and Norbert (Pterocactus australis SAR 4181 - Rio Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz, AR with 18 flowers and some mo...

Re: TSG Annual Meeting this Sunday - 13th May
Chris, good mood, some questions, a terrible pronunciation, my wife (with a better pronunciation) and perhaps some Pterocacti.
See you (all) on Sunday
