Re: Mammillaria gigantia which keeps toppling over

Indeed Terry did and I raised several plants from that seed. Incidentally, Terry got one of those plants back in our branch raffle at North Surrey.

Re: Mammillaria gigantia which keeps toppling over

Assuming you have given the plant adequate light ( sunshine ) and it is not etiolated, and along with the added assumption that this is not m. gigantia, what are we looking at. Well, there are a few candidates that come to mind, m. backebergiana subsp. ernestii, m. spinosissima and possibly m. matud...

Derek Bowdery RIP 1932 - 2018.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned on this forum. A quick check through the pages here revealed no references that I could see to his passing. Those of you who knew Derek will remember him as a very cheerful person, always willing to help and a prominent member of our hobby. Notably, for h...

Re: Terry on TV

Hi, I have been catching up with all the news from our forum, having been absent from these pages for some time. I think Terry did a wonderful job advertising our hobby with his genuine enthusiasm for all the plants that he cultivates. I am privileged to have him as a fellow club member at North Sur...

Re: Japanese Succulent Potting Mix

In my experience Akadama does break down over time - more with my Bonsai but also eventually for C&S. Tesco cat litter (and the larger grained Sanicat product) are more durable. I am trying a range of plants in inorganic mixes including Haworthias and Pterocacti both of which seem to thrive in ...

Re: My mamm vetula gracilis furred up!

Not too much nitrogen though, which babybio has. Ok for a kick start but you need to feed a more balanced cactus fertilizer, otherwise your plants will be too sappy and bloated and may succumb the winter.
