Re: Aylostera question

This was my plant of L. schieliana, 11 years ago. It's now about 20cm high.
Doesn't look too similar to the original plant, in my opinion.

Re: Perfect seed sowing substrate

Pretty similar to my all-mineral mix, which is equal parts of

seed-grade vermiculite
seed-grade hortag (or cat litter if easier to obtain)
seed-grade perlite (omitted if unavailable)
sharp sand
fine grit (or use 2 parts of grit-sand instead of separate sand and grit)

I've got at least a dozen forms of that species, and while they are variable in spine length, body colour, etc, and while they do offset freely i...

Re: Aylostera question

I don't have anything quite like that in my Aylostera collection. It might be a Mediolobivia type Aylostera - or it could be a Lobivia. We need to see the flowers...

Re: Mould/fungus on seed soil

I use Chinosol (1/2 an Asprin sized tablet in a bucket of water) when I spray my seedlings, and never get any issue with mould.

Wow - and I had to leave the greenhouse doors open to stop it getting to hot here in North Wales.

Excellent! How do you get your black backgrounds in your photos? I used to use an old tee-shirt, but it went grey in the sun...
