Re: Request from Kew

The problem with trying to donate anything to Kew is the amount of form filling to comply with all the biodiversity agreements. There really has to be a paper trail going back to the original collection. Well this request is for plants so I am just trying to help out. Strange as they often grow BCS...

Request from Kew

I have been contacted by the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew and they are looking for our help in finding a replacement plant. Their email reads:- 'Hi Ian, Hope you are well and all your plants are happy. I wonder if you can help me. Last year in spring we had a vent failure resulting in one of the zon...

Re: legal question, photo's, children n permission etc

As a full time photographer I do need to know my facts. As quite rightly stated above different countries (within EU) have different laws. I was talking about images taken in the UK and if you are in a public space you can photograph almost whatever you like and certainly people are fair game. What ...

Re: legal question, photo's, children n permission etc

What Tony said is completely right. In a public place you can take pictures of people (including children) and there is no legal issue. In the case in question the library is not public area and you need to understand what the position is of the council (or whoever owns the venue). Generally they ar...

Re: Chairman Ian's recruitment drive.

The BCSS is certainly value for money. The Alpine Garden Society offers very similar membership benefits but their subscription is about twice ours! The difference between the two societies is that the AGS has an office and a paid director and some of the officers receive honoraria too. People in t...

Re: David Hunt

I am very sorry to hear this. David was a giant in the cactus world and did so much work work on the plants we all love and was the author of many books on Cacti including the New Cactus Lexicon which with his co-authors was a monumental task. I met David many times through the years and he was very...

Re: Chairmans vision for the future

A couple of months ago the society national chairman gave a talk at our local branch. The first half was devoted to popular plants of a type likely to attract interest from folk who have never been interested in the plants we grow(in my case only succulents-sorry). I have to say the presentation an...

Re: eNews Special Edition

I am more interested in what members want than people that may never join. We have a separate survey for new members / potential members. If we opened this up on the Facebook group we could be inundated with requests from people who have no intentions of joining. I am paying to get the data analysed...

Re: eNews Special Edition

Ian Of course, it could be more important in the long-term to base it on what the NON-members want, given that most of us existing members are OAPs. Ralph Ralph There is a seperate survey for new members and the data will be used at a workshop where I have new, not so new and some more experienced ...

Re: eNews Special Edition

The survey question issue has been addressed so please feel free to give us your views.

Its very important for me as I want to build the BCSS based on what the members want rather than what an aging committee think you want.

Kind regards
Ian
