Re: I chickened out...
I think there are a lot of factors that influence the effect of a minimum temperature on plants. Soil moisture and air humidity are well known, but duration of exposure less often considered. Just as we could withstand the temperarure of a walk-in freezer for a few minutes, but not a few hours, a br...

Re: An unusual hybrid
Yes, ADBLPS seed. I had two germinate. One lasted about 3 years and died without flowering. This one, though slow, seems significantly more robust. The scent is strong too!

Re: An unusual hybrid
Well, 4 years after my previous post on this thread, my plant has finally flowered. The seed was apparently from a backcross of a (Haageocereus decumbens × Pygmaeocereus bylesianus) with P. bylesianus. Definitely decumbent but with a rather large, very scented nocturnal flower.

Happy Christmops
Thought I'd share this one - a Christmas flowering Lithops. This plant of L. aucampiae was given to me by a great Lihops grower, Bob French, when by chance I lived just down thwe road from him 15 years ago. This year it's decided to flower in late December. A welcome spot of brightness at a dull tim...

11cm and 13cm half pots
I have recently run out of 11cm and 13cm round plastic half (or squat) pots, and despite a websearch cannot find anyone that has these avaliable.
I don't suppose anyone here knows of a UK or European supplier who has stock of such things.
Cheers!

Re: they are small but they know how to get noticed
Lovely to see. Thanks for sharing.
In the past few days I've also had my two Avonias open flowers, which I've never seen before. I'm guessing the long period of warm sunny weather has helped. Mike

Cleistocactus x Matucana hybrid
Back in January 2015 I sowed some seed that I had bought as Cleistocactus strausii x Matucana madisoniorum. Most of the resulting plants are sickly, yellow-green bodied columnar plants that seem very reluctant to keep their roots. But one is noticeably more healthy and vigorous - perhaps three times...
