I would recommend using no soil or compost, just freely draining inorganics. When I first planted out my garden I used a variety of materials including bricks and hardcore at the bottom and for larger plants just all in ballast. I've had Agave salmiana and filfera growing outside unprotected from the elements through -8C so kept dry they'll be fine. The other two are more tender species but may well be fine kept dry.

Well, I guess the same as everyone else I used it in combination with the smaller Tesco stuff when potting smaller plants. But also with John Innes compost plus sharp sand. Personally I would prefer the Sanicat to be mixed with something that had a smaller lump size as I feel it is a bit big to use ...

Yes, a good deal bigger. Same stuff, though. I've been using it in potting mixes fro larger plants for a few years now, ever since it was flagged up on here.
