Re: Rooting an Aloe

I am a little discouraged but we had an incident at the flower show where a woman on a mobility scooter lost control and tipped over one of our tables full of sales plants. I rescued an Aloe 'Christmas Carol' and when I went to pot it up I found an entire leaf detached. Obviously the only thing to d...

Re: Chamaelobivia ID please

Hi Tony, thanks, yes I'm still about but got sidetracked by Facebook. I really can't remember the name but have a vague idea it was quite unusual. John tends to create his own hybrids and I don't see him very often these days. The flowers are very short-lived and I have always failed to get a photo ...

Chamaelobivia ID please

I had this hybrid from John White and the writing on the label has completely faded. I might be able to remember it if someone can run a few possible names past me. Thanks.

Re: Dual form Opuntia

They must be ten years old but yes, could well be O orbiculata. Pity I couldn't add a photo. I tried pasting between the two imgs but nothing happened.

Dual form Opuntia

My friend grew some cacti from mixed seed many years ago. One of them turned out to be something like Cylindropuntia vestita. Today he showed me something quite interesting that has happened to it. It is growing classic Opuntia pads at the ends of the hairy cylindrical arms. For some reason I can't ...

Re: Echinocereus subinermis flower

Also if you are focussing in really close so that the camera only sees one colour it might have difficulty deciding the correct exposure. Using a grey card to manually set the exposure might help. I just wish I could find mine, it's here somewhere.

Re: Drawings found !

Brilliant as usual Lithos. Anyone who thinks they can't draw should maybe get hold of a copy of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards and devote some time to doing some of the exercises. I particularly like the one where you copy a drawing that is upside down and then turn it the r...

Re: Echinocereus knippelianus

The same happened with mine and I was sure it was a gonner but as I tend to water dead plants for some considerable time I was proved wrong. I mentioned it on the forum a year or two ago and that might be where you read it.

Echinocereus knippelianus

My Echinocereus knippelianus is still quite small and the flowers easily overwhelm it
