Hm... They are definitely similar. If this is the case, I guess I don't need to get rid of them, as booklice feed on detritus, and not live plants.

Pest ID
Who are these insects on the bottoms of my pots with mesembs? They are 1mm long and run pretty fast. They don't look like thrips that Google shows. They look more like termites to me, but that's impossible in Canada. My plants are indoors. I also found a bunch of what looks like carnivorous mites (t...

Re: UV grow light
This is definitely not cold damage, and they are not behind glass/plastic. I take them out when there is no threat of frost, i.e. when it is 10-15C outside. The damage happens during the day, usually when my temporary cover is blown away by the wind. Interestingly, it only happens to a handful of pl...

UV grow light
Every spring I lose some lithops to scorch. I think this is due to UV and not IR part of the spectrum, since this happens when air is still cool and it is hard to imagine plants getting overheated. Hence the idea to add UV LEDs to the grow light, so that the plants never lose UV-protecting pigments....

Re: Lithops ID
Many thanks Ian! Now I have to save these difference. This is a lot more informative than what I could find in Treasures of the Veld.

Lithops ID
Dear Lithops Experts, I had a stupidity of sowing L. optica and L. marmorata in the same pot, and now I cannot tell the difference. What does the plant with the flower look like to you: L. optica C288 MG1679, or L. marmorata 'framesii' SB1097 MG1665.8? 2023-10-17 13.58.12.jpg The plant to the left i...

Bulbs: where to begin?
I would like to try growing bulbs, and would like some advise. 1. What bulbs are most suitable for indoors, i.e. bulbs on the smaller end of the spectrum, and the ones that do not grow very tall, since in the winter they would grow in enclosed space? My first though is South African bulbs, but I am ...

Re: LED Growlights 2023
How hot does it get inside? As I understand it, the fans draw air from the room, and exhaust it into the room. I have a similar set-up, but have to draw air from outside in the winter (and exhaust it to the outside). The whole contraption can only function when it is no warmer than 0C outside, other...
