Re: First Frailea flower open this year

Fcataphracta.jpg Wow, thanks for posting. One day perhaps I will see some of mine open their flowers, what is the secret? Being lucky! I'm no expert, only just returned to growing Fraileas after a 20 year absence, and of course all my old plants had died, along with my memory of their flowering hab...

Re: Croydon Branch Show, pictures

Thank you for posting the pictures, some very nice looking plants this year, I am sorry I missed the show this year.
I am sure that the hard work you have all put into the shows, reaching out to the local growers will reap the reward of a few new members.

Ralph, how big was it when you got it?
Hard to remember exactly, but probably about the same size as Christer's now - perhaps 5 years old or so?

It puts on a really good show of flowers most years. This is its second lot of buds this year.

Re: Old favourites

As you see I am not picky about dead flowers.

Some of the Noto's like to hold on to their old flowers, they are not easy to keep tidy.

Impressive Ralph, how big was it when you got it?
Mine is tiny, I only got it a couple of years ago and each summer it has rewarded my with more flowers than you would expect from such a small plant. I would say here's to the next thirty years... agh I'll be in my eighties.

Re: Chamaecereus

An interesting thread thank you Phil.
Another one of those plants that I had many years ago as a youngster growing pocket money plants, sadly long departed but one that I would happily re acquire should I come across one of the original clones.

I am no expert but it does look very like the Aloinopsis orpenii I grew from the society seed list last year.
