Re: April 2018 - Mammillarias

Diane, all your four plants are awesome!! I have never managed such rings of flowers on any of my Mamms... These photos were taken on April 2nd 2014, so almost exactly 4 years ago, and demonstrate how far advanced they were compared to this year. They are only just showing buds this year and haven't...

Re: February 2018 - Early Bloomers

I admit this was a difficult subject but there have been some great entries to choose from nonetheless! I really liked Jim Mercer's Crassula ovata as well as Liz M's Veltheimia bracteata, but my first prize goes to Suculentia for an Aloe speciosa with fantastic colour and texture. Suculentia, please...

Re: February 2018 - Early Bloomers

Just 3 more days to go in this short month, but today a Stenocactus opened the cactus flowering season in my greenhouse, as usual.

Re: February 2018 - Early Bloomers

To get the month started, here is a cactus that is nicely fitting for the winter theme and is in flower in my greenhouse today: Mammillaria gracilis 'Arizona Snowcap'!

February 2018 - Early Bloomers

I don't know whether you're the same, I always eagerly await the first flowers in the greenhouse, to compete with the snowdrops and crocuses outside. I've already had an Aloe with several flower stems, and one or two Mammillaria flowers. My 'winners' usually are a Stenocactus and a Turbinicarpus val...

Re: January 2018 - Winter Blues

Thanks to all for your contributions. Specially commended are the offerings of Puya bertoniana by Mike T, Paul in Essex's blown over greenhouse, Chris R for the snow covered mesem and Jim Mercer for his cheeky blue offering. However, the winner is Frank103 with his very blue Pilosocereus. Over to y...

[quote="MikeT"]Slow start to the New Year, Rod

Here are a few shades of blue:

If it's winter here, it's summer in the southern hemisphere, just right for Puya

These are all great photos but I love the Puya and bird! Where was this taken?
Thanks,

Re: January 2018 - Winter Blues

I am surprised that no-one has posted a photo of a Pilosocereus yet - I think the bluest of all cactus genera.
This is one of my favourite plants:
