Re: Recycling plastic pots

Thanks Jim, that's a very useful map, Wisley is the only place near me that is part of the scheme. Until maybe last year at least three other Garden Centres locally had pot recycling bins, but all have vanished. It's a shame, such a good way of reusing (= recycling) plastic pots.

I had also noticed that those useful bins of used pots had vanished, they were particularly useful for potting on cuttings for branch sales. However, a few weeks ago I discovered that the plant centre at RHS Wisley had reintroduced the scheme and I got some very useful pots. Probably convenient for ...

This is a very sad time for you Eric, but what remarkable story, these little plants have done really well against the odds. Let's hope they continue to flourish.

Re: Might have to stay up tonight

Thanks Eric, I think it has done very well. I also have an identical looking plant labelled as T. pachanoi, which is part of one of my very first cacti, given to me by my Dad over 50 years ago, it has never flowered!

Re: First flowering on an old-timer

Well done Diane, quite an achievement. I have had mine maybe 30 years from a small head, it's now a clump in a 12" bowl, it has never flowered. I've always thought they are difficult to flower in cultivation.

Re: Green Gardener

In line with what Mike says above: I tried the 'ladybird' control for mealy but some years ago, completely useless, it made no difference at all. I have never tried Encarsia but have friends who use them with complete success.
