Re: Keeping my plants safe from the cats
For most cacti and succulents it would need to be on a sunny windowsill; the positioning in some of the photos in the link would only be suitable for plants tolerating low light levels. The drawback of a sunny windowsill is that temperatures inside a confined glass container could get way too hot in...

Re: Keeping my plants safe from the cats
One option is to put the plants (in their pots) in a window box. If they are packed reasonably tightly, they won't get knocked over. If there aren't enough to pack tightly and hold each other up, then you need to get some more plants along with your window box.

old BCSS seed distribution collection numbers
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I can't find the thread, so hoping someone can point me in the right direction. In previous years the BCSS seed distribution often had collection numbers but with no further detail given on the printed list. I think there was a list somewhere online givin...

Re: Ecehveria Maria worries
I'd echo the previous comments. I have several forms of Echeveria agavoides, and they are all hardy to at least a few degrees of frost, if dry. E, agavoides is quite fast growing, I'd give this a larger pot (I'd wait for spring, though I know some are happy to repot in winter) and definitely more li...

Re: Seed trays of mixed seedlings Solved
I’ve always removed the lids on seed trays when the newly emerged seedlings are five days old and sprayed them daily thereafter. What do you with mixed species/varieties which germinate at different times? Keep the lids on until they have all germinated? I’d be grateful for advice thanks. I use the...

Re: Autumn Cactus and Succulent Show at RHS Harlow Carr 23/9/2023 - the photographs
You’ve done a great job Terry. Thank you so much. I'll second Mike's response. Proof that great Mike's think alike, perhaps? Regarding the third place in the Novice succulent class, I spoke to the owner and her mother, the plant which does look like Conophytum (not Gibbaeum) regale, should n...

Re: The Autumn Cactus and Succulent Show at RHS Harlow Carr on 23 September 2023 - the photographs thread not the politi
At Harlow Carr, the organisers had a job fitting everything in. The show was spread over 2 different rooms, so that didn't help, and it turned out that the available table space was less than ideal, so plants were a bit squashed together. There are bound to be glitches for the first time at a new ve...
