Tesco Valentines Day succulent - what is it??

Tesco is selling this plant in a 6cm diameter ceramic pot in their Valentines Day collection. I'm guessing it may be a Kalanchoe leaf ??

Agave leopoldii flowering - advice sought

I would appreciate some advice on care for my first agave which is going to flower. The plant is Agave leopoldii which I understand may be a cross between schidigera and filifera. My questions are - when will it actually flower and for how long - this year or will it need overwintering - any informa...

Re: Help with choosing a greenhouse

I bought a 18 x 8 Rhino a few years back, mainly because we are in an exposed location and I required something that can stand up to the fairly extreme winds we get on occasions. It is strong and robust, as good as any 'hobby' greenhouse that I have seen. I would buy another if looking to expand. Rh...

Re: Seeds from tissue cultured plants

I have found several of the variegated STC plants to be infertile and so never set seed. Others do set seed and will very occasionally produce variegated seedlings, although I think this is at a lower percentage rate than from other variegated Haworthia plants. I have grown a minimum of 100 pots of ...

Re: My UID Haworthia

Possibly turgida var suberecta (sometimes called rodenii) which has the nice silvery flecks, however the leaves are slightly more pointed than I would have expected.

Beware - Puya Chilensis

I thought the barbs on the leaves were bad enough, but better be careful if this decides to flower in the greenhouse - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2346407/Sheep-eating-plant-kills-animals-spikes-set-flower-Surrey-garden-centre-time-15-years.html . The way health and safety restrictions a...

Re: Mould in my seedlings

What concentration of bleach do you use and how long do you recommend soaking the seeds for - I've always been wary that treating seeds in this manner may inhibit germination. I used to use Cheshunt Compound, but now that this is unavailable, I've never tried an alternative. I grow a mix of cacti an...

Re: Did you visit the National Show to see the plants?

It was the range of sellers attending which encouraged me to go (a long drive from north-east Scotland) but I also enjoyed looking at the exhibits. I guess I browsed the sales area too thoroughly as by the time I had looked over this and bought what I 'needed' there was only time for a quick tour of...
