Here are some pics of a E. wilmaniae for comparison with your plant: https://www.cactuseros.com/Especie/2218 ... iae__.html
I think it looks different from yours.

Hi Suzanne,
Yes, you're right! These are in fact underground shoots.

Re: E horrida or maybe E polygona?
The colour of the nectar glands isn't a distinctive feature between the two. There are horrida varieties which also have reddish to purple nectar glands (E. horrida var. noorsveldensis and E. horrida var. striata). However, as a result of DNA studies E. horrida was relegated to synonym of E. polygon...

Re: ELK roll call
Hi Florian, May I ask you to reserve one of the pillansii plants for me to replace the plant I already have which I hope will be going to a good home soon as it is touching the roof of the greenhouse (12-14 feet). I brought it back from a nursery in South Africa in 1988 as a two years old seedling,...

I'll be there on Saturday. I've some Aloidendron dichotomum (Aloe dichotoma) and Aloidendron pillansii (Aloe pillansii) plants to give away in good hands (first come, first serve). They are grown from seed and about 40 cm tall. If somebody is interested, please send me a message. Detlef (ali...

Re: Euphorbia stellispina: spines or thorns? That's the ques
Hi John, Thanks for your advice. To make the confusion complete, what you mean are (in botanical terms) "prickles" (in German "Stacheln"). E.g. roses have prickles. Colloquially, the German words "Stacheln" and "Dornen" are often mixed. Cacti and (most...

Euphorbia stellispina: spines or thorns? That's the question
Dear friends, I am struggling with the translation of an English text about euphorbias and would like to ask you for help. My question is: Does Euphorbia stellispina have “spines“ or “thorns“? What is the scientifically correct term in this context? I searched the Internet and have found (amongst ot...
