Re: Simple act which could boost membership

I know it sounds simple but - I've been asking for these for years - just a friendly leaflet with 50% cultivation details and 50% about the BCSS - to add in with everything I sell to the public. Our new chairman did tell me something is in the pipeline so maybe something might finally happen. Stuart

Re: Woohoo! Boophone time again!

Fascinating plant, superb flowers, don't enter it in a BCSS Show though!

Re: More plant rustling

Glad something is being done but a £7000 fine between four isn't going to be a huge deterrent in view of the prices some of these plants are selling for.'

Re: Chelsea Flower Show

Nice boost in interest for the humble Sedum, usually a genus that sits quietly in the background. I've seen this in Home Depot in the US, it's got Plant Breeders Rights which growers don't normally obtain unless something is attractive to gardeners and is being grown in large numbers. I would expect...

Not seen that one before - it's a beauty - deserves a better name though.

Re: CITES help please

Most of the South African succulents I grow aren't included in CITES, those that are on the CITES list are all Aloes, most Euphorbias and Pachypodiums but if you stick to Mesembs and Haworthias there'll be no CITES involvement. I've had quite a few CITES permits over the years for importing from the...

Re: In flower today

The Mammillaria Solisioides is from a few years ago and it's not the easiest plant to keep alive so don't change whatever you're doing to it! I struggle with Mamm Leuthyi, grafted 10 last year and they looked fine until the winter when they all dried up. Your plant is grafted so maybe a little water...

Re: best places for mail order cacti in the UK?

Thanks Ralph, there's far fewer nurseries than when I started and more tending to be online only. The two that I make a point of visiting when I'm nearby are Southfields in Lincolnshire and Kent Cacti. Just noticed that the request was for mail-order so Southfields is the obvious choice.

Re: CactusWorld LIVE!

Thanks Jim, hadn't seen the online bit, nothing in the physical schedule about the show also being on the Sunday. There's been some resistance to a two day National in the past, hopefully with a good number of exhibitors at this Show, there might be some possibility of a two-day National in 2024. St...
