Re: Pruning/training advice sought!

That's a beauty Tina, I really like what you've done with it.

Re: Rare Cacti ?

I'm sure that it did, and I have also had plenty of plants that came mislabeled, let alone a case when there has been rampant confusion and misrepresentation of a particular plant for decades. Most of these that I bought were represented as A. titanota, and none of them are. I really like the FO-76,...

Re: Photos from California

Thanks for those photos. I really like the planting with what looks to be the Dracaena draco tree centralized, and the wonderfully variegated Agave attenuta with rather thick stem and offsets depicting variations of variegation and non variegation. I would imagine that Dracaena must be relatively ol...

Re: Pruning/training advice sought!

I see the bending I assume you're referring to is the greener and newer growth near the top. Although I don't grow these specific plants extensively, I've seen the same sort of problematic growth with tree aloes I have. Knowing they can get relatively tall, I didn't want them growing particularly be...

Re: Rare Cacti ?

OK, appreciate that correction. However, the plant in question is still correctly considered A. FO-76, and not A. titanota. That's the main point I was making.

Re: Rare Cacti ?

Actually, no. The correct designation for that plant is A. 'FO-76', after Filipe Otero and the year 1976. At best, it is an intergrade between A. titanota and A. horrida. The real A. titanota is very geographically limited, with the best known population found at Rancho Tambor (Oaxaca). A. FO76 has ...

Re: An Aloe

My first thought is Aloe glauca. Having investigated that one previously, images posted for this species are not entirely consistent, leading me to believe that the form varies somewhat. I think your plant falls within the range of the overall appearance I've seen. What is very consistent is the pro...

Re: Agave talk & pictures

Liz, that's a stunningly beautiful and well grown plant. I agree with Paul, in that the mid-stripe is reminiscent of univitatta/lophantha, but different and unique in other ways. The ring of offsets really adds to the overall appeal.

Re: Agave talk & pictures

Paul, I appreciate that tidbit of information. I took a screen shot and added it for informational purposes to my photo files of those plants. I understand that incorrect names are rampant among Agave, and the use of Ferox seems to be common even among reputable and knowledgeable sources. I tend to ...

Re: Mystery Disease - identification?

It looks to me fungal in nature, and I'd be using a horticultural fungal spray. Might be too little too late for that one with the black spots, but I'd be worried because fungal activity spreads by spores. During warm dry weather with good air circulation, it's not a huge threat, but in wintry damp ...
