E. Milii cuttings growing - thanks to Keith H!

An update on some cuttings the very kind Keith H sent me when I first joined this forum: they lost all the leaves they came with and have grown several new leaves and each cutting had gone through two or three sets of flowers since then... I'm taking this as a sign they're putting on roots! (I certa...

Re: Any places of interest within London?

Geoff: I'm in Haringey :). Zone 3, if that's more helpful. Capel Manor is really really easy to get to from where I am, thank you for the excellent suggestion! And I'd not heard of it. Thanks for all the suggestions so far! I'm going to check all of them out via Google to help get a better sense of...

Any places of interest within London?

I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions of places to buy or just see nice collections, within the London area? I am fairly lucky to be situated near a couple of nice garden centres, one of which does have a good/very varied selection of succulents and cacti, while the other has a great selection of ...

Re: Spikes vs Flowers

As someone with very little chance of flowers form most of my plants as they're grown indoors all year round, I say spikes are just as beautiful. A lot of what attracts me to plants in the first place is their shape in general, as I have bought almost everything in my collection when it's not been f...

Re: small (hopeful) soil improvements, question about roots

Mat: I think I will try watering it from below for a while, thank you for the suggestion. I'd like to encourage it to grow (back?) roots. I feel like it might just have had super fine roots that disintegrated when I tried to get rid of all the dirt... which I did manage, but it took a little bit of...

small (hopeful) soil improvements, question about roots

After having a poke around and a few discussions I've decided that a lot of my small collection needs repotting into more suitable soil. I've started with a John Innes No. 2/coarse grit mix (roughly 50/50), and with repotting the things that seem most desperate for it and/or were aesthetically awkwa...

Re: Greetings from Finland

Pia,

I think the focus on having the plants for their own sake is a lovely thing too, flowers or no. (Though of course flowers are beautiful). Hope to see some of your collection in the future!
