Grafting

You either love it or you hate it. This is one of my first attempts from a couple of years ago. How can anyone accuse this plant (or plants) of being anything but the height of elegance and beauty? IMG_3311.jpg On the other hand, this t. geometricus was a 1cm pad that I knocked off the parent plant ...

How much germination do you aim for?

Hi everyone, Depending on seed source/growing conditions, I always find my germination rates for seeds can vary wildly, often with many pots only containing one or two seedlings (or none!), and other pots with dozens. I cant help but feel a little disappointed when a pot only has a single seedling i...

Re: Euro car parts (cat litter)

I recently had 40L for £15, seems very reasonable for delivery to my door (although it took 3 weeks this time, but thats forgivable at the moment i suppose!)

Re: Greenhouse tips?

It can be a lot of work, but there’s always an abundance of free for collection 6x8s (sometimes bigger!) on advert websites such as FB marketplace and gumtree, for an afternoon’s solid graft it’s generally very easy to pick something solid up for free, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Re: My small grafting field

Do you break off the weaker grafts so only one remains, or do you leave multiple scions to fight it out? Looks great

Re: PASSWORD for the On-line presentations

Had a look at Zoom there but couldn't find an answer. Does Zoom generate subtitles? There is some information about auto subtitling, but I would imagine it would work poorly given the quality of the hardware being used, and the difficult vocab used in the meetings. However maybe someone could inves...

Re: Special Event: Cactus Grafting at Home - livestream

Thanks for the link Phil - what a brilliant idea! Incidentally, if any other members would like to have a go at something like this I would be more than happy to lend a hand in getting setup, just pop me a message. I have decent technical knowhow but certainly lack the cactus knowledge to justify a ...

Re: BAP

What a surprisingly delicious thread! Please bear in mind I have no detailed knowledge of plant biology, so much of my knowledge of the topic is 'keyboard' knowledge if you get my gist. BAP refers to 6-benzylaminopurine, a plant hormone that induces growth. While I understand that it is used more re...

Re: Tephrocactus geometricus

Hi, Do you have any tips on using BAP? Someone was saying to use it as a paste? I had imagined diluting and watering it on like feed? Thanks, stuart Maybe we should start a new thread to avoid going off-topic here, since BAP is such a big topic! I have used it as both a paste and dissolved in 70% e...

Re: Tephrocactus geometricus

I have found that T. geometricus has shown the best response to using 6-BAP out of all my trials so far. For example, see this individual stem which I received bare-rooted this time last year and has both rooted and produced four new pads in a single year. However it does seem to make stems more pro...
