Flowers after 2 years of student life
This plant spent a year in university halls of residence, followed by a year in a dark, slightly damp, basement. It has been knocked out of its pot at least twice to my knowledge and not at all well cared for. Since my daughter returned it to my care last autumn, it has almost doubled in size and pu...

Re: Christmas cactus confusion
Thanks again for the replies, I'll just bear with them then I was planning to re-pot once flowering had finished and they were resting but that'll have to wait now.

Re: Christmas cactus confusion
Thanks both for the replies, very helpful, but I'm still a bit unsure what's best to do. Is it usual for the Thanksgiving cactus to flower twice? I've just noticed today that the cuttings are also starting to form a second lot of buds! Should I take the main plant back from its 'cool room' and resum...

Christmas cactus confusion
My Christmas cactus flowered in November and was just about all over by Christmas. I moved it to a cooler spot and kept it very dry since as I though it would be its resting period. However, it's now completely covered in buds once more and I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions please? I'm afraid...

What are these 'blisters'
This plant has two clear 'blisters', one near the top and another near the base and a couple of clear 'runs' down the groove (visible in this image). I gently lifted the edge of one of these with a cocktail stick and the flesh looked healthy enough underneath but what are they? IMG_20170728_08191612...

Re: Haworthia question
My shelf is full I'm afraid and no chance of expanding - probably a good thing.Stuart wrote:One Haworthia ia a collection will be a bit lonely, I'd suggest buying more Haworthias to keep it company, maybe a few Gasterias too.

Re: Shall I bin it?
One year on... I discarded the original plant as it was badly infested and disfigured. I managed to keep two of the pups and the smaller of these has just flowered, despite being only about 3/4 inch in diameter - seems like a little powerhouse! The other survivor is twice the size, a totally differe...

Re: Haworthia question
Well the first flower has opened this morning and very attractive it is too (when viewed under a magnifier!) with the promise of more flowers to come. The stalk is now over 1 foot long and an offshoot has appeared in the last day or two. All this in addition to two new offsets at the base of the pla...

Sulcorebutia rauschii offset
I bought this plant at the Botanical Garden show in October since when three offsets have appeared. I guess these little danglers are roots belonging to one of the offsets - should they be left to find their own way or should I remove that middle offset and roots (if I can!)? Re: Haworthia question
Seems a bit cruel to just yank it off after all that effort... I shall see how it develops.
