Re: Success! or was it pure luck?

Thanks you all.
Aiko, there were more than one plant blooming at that time, as usually at least 3 plants are blooming at a given time. Also, I always transfer pollinia from different plant to pollinate, but havnt try pollinia from another species,

Success! or was it pure luck?

This is the first time my Whitesloanea is setting seeds after they have been VERY reluctant. I did numerous hand-pollination under a hand lense, and the flies also did their works, so cannot be certain to whom should be given the credit. Now I have hope after it was long abandoned on these plants ! ...

Re: Boswellia sacra (Frankincense): caudiciform succulent

Marlon, those are very nice gifts indeed, all are quite hard to get hold of. The B. elongata is my favorite with its beautiful long leaves. I got a plant last year and it looked like your's with simple leaves which puzzled me as the pictures in the books all seem to have compound leaves. As it turne...

Re: golden barrel flowering

I grow a few in my outdoor bed, but despite full day sun and extreme heat, I havn't seen a single flower. There must be other factors involve, or maybe they just arn't old enough (size and age are independence!).

they like it hot!

I guess they like it hot. The temperature reaches 42 degree C. for many weeks now, and many plants are showing full growth indicated by new wool and spines, especially the Mexican miniatures. Pelecyphora asseliformis are flowering away, as well as the Strombos. I feel this is only the beginning as t...

Re: Boswellia sacra (Frankincense): caudiciform succulent

Euan, How many seeds did you sow? I got some seeds last year. Out of around 500 seeds I got 4 germination, and only 3 are survining until now. I found them quite slow growing. They are about the size of yours' since last year and not much growth ever since but not dropping the leaves either. Maybe t...
