Re: Dioscorea macrostachya: advice needed

Thank you so much for getting back to me on this Keith! I agree that it's best to get it on a proper schedule. Seeing that it has stopped its attempts to grow I will support its decision by not watering. Hopefully it will be back on track in the spring. Mike, those elephantipes are amazing! Hope the...

Re: Is Anacampseros alstonii self fertile ?

I can 100% confirm, same as iann, that Avonia quinaria are self-fertile. I've had seeds and good seedlings from single plant every year. They will not self-pollinate like other Avonias. You need to tickle them to get seed pods. But the seeds are plenty and viable.

Re: Young Lithops ... the next step?

The seedlings are a perfect size for 2 year olds. With lithops, the smaller they are the prettier and healthier.

Re: Facebook as a tool to support the BCSS

I might have underestimated Facebook and its effectiveness locally, my apologies. There are no plant related groups in my area and there are never any events. As for promoting such events on social media, FB or otherwise, detailed reports with tons of pictures of past events would be a strong encour...

Re: Facebook as a tool to support the BCSS

I've been active on social media for many years now (not FB which is generally considered to be something for "old people" ) and the very nature of social media is being international. Posting advertisements for some branch meeting or show that is relevant for very few people who hap...

Re: Dioscorea macrostachya: advice needed

Thank you Terry! Yes, this being D. macrostachya, I am a bit worried that it was "interrupted" during its growth period. It still had strong looking vines on the pictures before it was shipped to me but they were of course cut for transport. It was delivered with this pot and substrate and...
