Re: Frailea

Hi Chris I assume you have seen frailea.com Although the "cultivation" link has no content, the articles link gives several references including cultivation tips. From the BCSS March 2008 there is an article by Angie Money. Her main recommendation is of lots of watering, in a nutshell, without refer...

Re: Seeds Sown

I tried GA3 with Sclerocactus seed - a few species - last year. Some seed I tried chipping, some water or weak acid soaking and some with GA3 treatment. With a couple of mixes of chipping or not combined with GA3. The GA3 results were no different from results of other treatment. On the other hand, ...

Re: Rebutia species rooting - advice please!

I feel a bit more positive about this. I suspect it may be easier to root a fresh wound when a callus has formed than try and root the main head which has dried tissue unlikely to be revitalised. My suspicion is that in a warm room the roots have simply dried over winter. I don't see any problem wit...

Re: My first Sclerocactus

I’ll have to see if I get any joy with germinating my Sclerocactus mesai-verdae. Once I’ve worked out how to chit them! The good news is I have successfully germinated mesae-verdae. Without chitting etc. The bad news I find it hard to believe it is a true Sclerocactus. Certainly from my germination...

Re: Debagging Lithops and Cono seedlings

Now? See

http://www.smale-conophytum.co.uk/grow_conos.htm

http://www.smale-conophytum.co.uk/grow_lithops.htm

which recommend free air circulation after germination. You won't get much better advice.

I wouldn't do baggy with these so can't confirm from experience.

Re: Help or newbie to identify a possible problem

I have one Echinocactus grusonii of the yellow-spined variety that has survived forty years with me and has lived in an unheated greenhouse (where for sure temperatures have gone well below 5 or 6 degrees) and survived without marking. It may well be that younger plants are more susceptible to cold ...
