Re: Fungus on seedlings etc.

FWIW I tried cinnamon this year to control fungus growth and have found it ineffective, with fungus (as opposed to algae) just growing through the sprinklings. I also found it didn't help control problems with brown fungal rot on cut surfaces of myrtillocactus grafts. So my conclusion so far is that...

Re: Rhipsalis compost

Not intended as a rant Ragamala, just pointing out that if you intend to be "green" you have to take every ramification of the change into consideration, not just a single aspect in order to be sure you don't cause more environmental damage than you solve by using the replacement. You int...

Re: Rhipsalis compost

Wow Dave, that's quite a rant developed from an innocent and accurate statement that some people have ethical objections to using peat. And not a very well-supported rant on pollution imo, but I really am not entering a discussion on diesel versus petrol etc. Anyone can these days produce stuff from...

Re: Rhipsalis compost

The plants are fine, and I have no objection to posting commercials for your selling site. But can I believe the colours?

Re: PH of substrate and seed germination

My thoughts on this are more questions than answers - If germination in other plants tends to be better at around neutral or lower pH is there any reason to think cacti should be any different? If rain triggers germination, is the washing away of germination inhibitors more important than the pH of ...

Re: Unexplained rotting of plant.

I don't see that as a big problem, Chris. Roots are broken all the time with repotting, it's a normal part of the process.
