They were probably following the sun. Didn't want to miss any.

Re: Oreocereus hendricksianus

Nice plant Peter, and a nice selection of woolly cacti. just goes to show I was miles off target in trying to identify my plant. I get the feeling that Oreocereus aren't that 'fashionable' anymore, but I like them and them and the woolly cacti. You're dead right Mike. It's not at all recent, this l...

Oreocereus hendricksianus

Further to MikeDom's mention of this in his Oreocereus thread, here is my plant. It's amongst my favourite cacti, as to me, it's distinctive and attractive. A slow grower though.

Re: Cleistocactus winteri colademononis Solved

Tina makes valid points about the good old days of the forum. As an early contributor (some years before the 2007 date quoted on quite a few members' details. That was a software change), I fondly recall the banter that went on. For example, 'other succulents' were weeds to us cacti growers (of spik...

Re: Cultivation snippets wanted for CactusWorld

On the subject of plant labels, they have two sides so I write the plant name on both. Very handy in case of fading or if the label is caught and snaps.
I always use a pencil as in my experience it lasts longer than ink. It can also be erased and the label reused.

Re: Top dressing for succulents

I use a 50-50 mix of fine washed grit (approx 3mm) - and John Innes No 3, with a nominal amount of Tesco cat litter added. This latter to help mop up and gradually release excess water. I've used this mix for many years for all my plants and have been very satisfied with the results. Back to top dre...

Re: Top dressing for succulents

A major benefit of top dressing is that it supports newly potted plants in their pots and thus helps the plants establish.
Very beneficial to those taller plants. For those of us who water from the top it helps to prevent compost from being washed off.

Perhaps Cactus Sun would be more appropriate!

But what would be on page three, Ralph?

Pouting Astrophytum myriostigma nudum?
Or curvy Gymnocalycium denudatum?

Cor, hot stuff!
