Re: Recommendation wanted for an Inkbird or Biogreen thermostat

The Inkbird ITC-308 is currently £29.99 at Amazon. However, there is a Lightning Deal tomorrow (Tuesday) for Prime members and whilst I am not aware of what the price will be, it sure looks like a good time to buy one. At a guess, I reckon the special discount will be in the order of £3-£5.00. Check...

Re: Advice please: disease or corking?

I just hope that there's some decent roots and not a mushy mesh due to over watering.

Re: Trichocereus landfillianus

Well, here's the evidence. Thanks needed to esp, who suggested that I should try Ebay. The Trichocereus sold for £50.00 and a large Pachycereus pringlei for £77.00. To be honest, I thought that nobody would want to buy them and hadn't considered Ebay, especially after struggling to give them away he...

Re: To shade or not to shade.....

It makes little difference if the temperature in a greenhouse is hotter than habitat temperature. There's always air movement 24/7 externally. No air movement with a cactus largely comprised of water leads to damage.

Re: Remove peat ft

Geoff: I share your view about peat based composts and their use for growing cacti. We've all seen and bought lovely peat grown plants and of course, for some folk it's good that the pots are lighter and easier to move around if required. I did try growing in peat many years ago but had to stop on t...

Re: Indoor thermometer?

Sorry to be the one who disagrees with Paul and Sylvia. I've just had to replace two of these no more than three years old, because the digital numbers have broken into illegible segments. Why they've both given up at once is beyond me, other than perhaps this long hot summer has been the cause. Aik...

Trichocereus landfillianus

There they are - those plants that you've had for many years. slowly growing, not doing much, but taking up space that you eventually realize that you need. It's an effort to get them out of the greenhouse but when you've got over just how different the place looks without them, you know that you've...

Re: blight on lophophora

Looks like rot to me. Probably caused by the pot being far too large. The plant can't cope with that amount of wet compost. My experience of Lophs is that they do best when being fairly tight in their pots.
