Re: Aylostera for ID

Hi Ralph
It could be R. pygmaea v diersiana.
I don't have a picture to hand but my gonjanii is much smaller and the flowers have pointed petals.

Re: spalding cactus mart

Yes - I was there, I hadn’t been before. I did very well – bought 22 plants. Some sellers did not have their names displayed so I don’t know who sold me some of them but excellent value for money from Wendy Edginton as usual. The only non-hybrid Echinopsis I managed to find was E. leucantha, also th...

Re: Essex Succulent Review

This is excellent, Sheila. Lots of information and friendly too!

I am surprised to know it has been produced for 50 years - I lived in Chelmsford till 10 years ago and have never heard of it.

Hope it continues for many years to come.

Re: Fumigating candles

Thanks again for the advice. Ralph: I did know not to have plants in there and I would beat a hasty retreat (or get someone else to apply the match!). DaveW: The neighbours are all on the opposite side of the road - they'd probably think I'd got a bonfire going  I'm not too sure how long to ai...

Re: Fumigating candles

Thank you for your replies. I do clean out too! I was thinking of all the nooks and crannies not to mention the many many many flowerpots in there where nasty stuff (as well as vampires) can lurk. I will probably give it a go using a sulphur one, perhaps that will also discourage the wisteria shoots...

Fumigating candles

Just wondering if anyone here uses sulphur or garlic fumigating candles in their greenhouses. It occurs to me that as my greenhouses are empty for another month or so it would be a good time to try them. But I don't know whether they leave any residues harmful to succulent plants, and whether they a...

Re: How low did it get Solved

I have two unheated greenhouses, one was -8.3 and the other -7.8. I don't think tonight will be much higher!

There are no plants in there  they are indoors and in the conservatory with newspaper and fleece and a small halogen heater put on at night, even so, the conservatory was -1.

Re: Encouraging new roots on an old plant

I agree about using cat litter for super rooting. I have found that Ferocacti are not easy to re root - once they've decided to give up, that's that. So :gl: I recall a couple of years ago someone on here bought one on Ebay that had poor roots for a summer project - I don't remember who it was nor h...

Re: Water Marks on Cactus

I had a Ferocactus from a commercial nursery and it had a lot of these white marks and whatever I tried they were still there. Then one day I saw a mealybug snug in the groove between ribs so I used the aerosol Provado to get at it and sprayed the whole plant just in case - lo and behold, no more wh...
