It's an Echinopsis - possibly E. oxygona, but maybe another species. They are pretty tough plants, but it's amazing that it has survived out of doors in Oban!

Ralph, it's black velvet, (silk is best if you can get it - it doesn't reflect light). It's actually an old blouse !! :grin:

Today's flowers

The last few weeks of cold, wet weather haven't been very conducive to cacti flowering, but I have a few nice ones from today. This is my "Old Faithful" Mammillaria theresae , which is at least 30 years old, with at least 17 heads and almost certainly a Pete 'n' Ken plant and in a 7" (18cm) pan: IMG...
