Re: Aloe mayottensis

It looks quite unusual for an Aloe... it reminds me of some Bromeliads I have seen.

Re: Late summer flowers

Lovely to see some cacti still in flower! I have M. schumannii in bud at the moment, but I fear it's too late this year for those to develop. I have been a little neglectful lately with my plants, but this one caught my eye this week: Mammillaria blossfeldiana, still a young plant. 53237085346_8ffce...

Re: Indentification please

That would be my guess also… There are some buds developing on areoles halfway down the plant.

Re: Columnar cactus - ID

Thank you very much everyone, I will let the Winterbourne team know. It would be nice to see it flowering - for those of you who know the Arid House at Winterbourne, the Trichocereus is planted where the huge Agave Americana used to be, fingers crossed it settles in quickly.

Columnar cactus - ID

This is a relatively new acquisition for the arid house at Winterbourne. Might anyone be able to ID this column at all? It looks very intriguing with the light spines at the top, the dark spines lower down!

Re: Agaves too big for you?

Orostachys spinosa seems quite tough to me, it certainly gets frost here in Birmingham. For protection from too much rain in winter I usually move the three plants I have under a shelter, but it does get some winter wet. Orostachys minima I believe is a form of spinosa so receives similar treatment....

That's what I thought - my impression has been that they take a fair bit of time to get to flower. I have four plants of similar age and size, so I shall look at them with renewed interest...
