Re: Westland Cactus soil

Hi Chris,

Have you got an outlet for Clover brand or Erin? Give it a try if you can find it, Terry and I use it as do a number of other growers in the south of England.

Re: Strange Opuntia behaviour

HI,

There is a form of O.johnsonii which always does this and sets seed within the bad after flowering, the pad swelling in pregnancy.

BTW I believe that the correct spelling is Opuntia pycnantha, at least according to RBG Kew it is.

Re: Mesemb for ID, please

HI,

I have an identical plant labelled Oscularia caulescens. Of course I have not looked it up to see if mine is correctly named!

Re: ID please

Hi,

With that relatively thin stem, for a Trichocereus, and those very long, strong spines I would think it might be T.fulvilanatus.

Re: Unknown succulent

HI, Sorry to have come to this so late in the day, missed it before Terry alerted me to it. I my opinion this is a Rabiea given the very large spots. But just maybe it is a hybrid between Rabiea and Prepodesma or I should say Aloinopsis orpenii. More sunshine and less fertiliser will perhaps make it...

Re: Is there something wrong with my Ferocactus?

Hi, How frequently do you water and feed your plant. As it is in pure cat litter it is getting no food from that medium, also the cat litter can have a leeching effect and wick water away from the plant. You are basically growing your plant hydroponically. Other than that there is nothing wrong with...

Re: Gymno or other?

Hi,

Not long to wait now for the flowers as it seems to be making its cephalium.

Re: Didymaotis Lapidiformis

Hi, Pete & Ken always used to offer this each year as nice seedlings, how many of those seedligns are still around - probably none! It comes from the Tanqua Karoo along with Tanquana hilmari, archeri & prismaticus and any of these three are easier to grow than Didymaotus. I know of only two people w...

Re: Lithops advice please

Hi, If you bought this from a garden centre then in all probability it was in a peat or coir based compost and so I am not surprised that it had no roots, you were lucky not to have lost it completely. It does seem rather early for the old leaves to have dried up completely, but not harmful. You now...

Re: Blue sticky fly traps

Hi Paul,

You may as well try them as you have them. They will probably fade in the sunlight quite quickly and become the shade of blue we are more used to.
