Re: Spineless Opuntia Recommendation

accidentally clicked the tick icon which added the solved notification on your post :???: can a admin/moderator revoke the solved notification please? Done! (you just click the 'tick' icon again to toggle it off) If you've got O. humifusa/compressa then I'd say you've already got the best option. I...

Re: Hooray and thanks!

if the seeds are lingering unused in a "bank" they could be put to some use. They don't linger for long as they're used to form part of the welcome pack for new members. I know that the membership secretary pretty much used up all of the seeds available from the previous year's seed list in this wa...

Re: Sowing cactus seeds: best time?

High humidity is both a requirement for young [cactus] seedlings (they usually dry up to nothing without it) and a problem (it's ideal conditions for competing organisms - moss, algae, fungi). I think you can look too hard for 'rules' of how to grow plants from seed. Most C&S seed needs light, moist...

Re: Coleocephalocereus & seed list

I had eleven packets of MMd but I haven't done very well with them on the whole - only four are still with me and, probably because they've had to contend with my 'hard' cultivation, most of them are still fairly puny. The first was from the Dec 2009 list and the other three from Dec 2010. I wish I'...

Re: Cactus seed payment

It might be interesting to know how many of our members are still actually without internet access. There may be a few, but is it a significant number? My branch has 58 members, 46 of whom have an email address associated with them. A further 2 are associate members for whom a spouse has provided a...

Re: A question about sowing seed from the BCSS seed list

Did you not get a cultivation pack when you first joined the Society? It's full of good advice on growing from seed. If sown indoors, heat's usually unnecessary and could be a hindrance, especially if it's constant. The general background house heat is usually fine - I've sown in a cold spare bedroo...

Re: Cactus seed payment

There's obviously a cost associated with Paypal, though this could be got around with a surcharge as typically happens when you pay for something this way. I believe that the main problem with it is that it's quite a faff matching up the bits of paper that come through the post with the list of paym...

Re: CactusWorld

Anyone without their CactusWorld can at least start to browse the seed list at http://society.bcss.org.uk/index.php/seed-list-2018-2019.html. I visited hoping there might be the promised "Further information and habitat details", since so few items carry field numbers while so many carry other field...

Yes, I'm not so keen on the larger size - it doesn't work for my soil mix.
