Re: Cereoid ID?
Hi, What a smashing plant, but I am afraid that it is not Rooksbeya, that has a much fuller flower and does not have the scales on the outside of the flower stem, I believe the plant you saw was Pachycereus pringlii. They are very spiny as young plants in our collections but when they mature they d...

Re: Jardin de Cactus, Lanzarote
I never tire of seeing pictures from the Canary Islands - Lanzarote especially has an understated beauty once away from the resorts. Thank you - any more to post? Thanks Paul! Happy to post some more. We stayed in La Asomada, a bit inland from Puerto del Carmen, and saw much of the island over 2 we...

Re: Cactus ID?
Are there any restrictions on bringing these things back into the country? I understand that you can bring 5 plants per person from the Canaries. http://www.rhs.org.uk/Gardening/Sustainable-gardening/pdfs/c_and_e_abroad They sell cacti at the airports too. Thanks for this! I thought that Canary Isl...

Re: Cactus ID?
Thanks very much, having googled this I'm sure you're spot on! Now I know what to write on that labelWerewolf wrote:Flowering at such a small size, I would suspect the plant is Ferocactus hamatacanthus ssp. sinuatus (or Hamatocactus if you prefer).

Cactus ID?
Just back from Lanzarote (photos of my trip another day!), I was wondering what this cactus is that I bought (without a label) at the Flower Power garden centre in Macher (worth a visit if you're in the area).
Many thanks for your suggestions!
