Re: Mystery plant (Lenophyllum texanum - serious pest)

Sounds more like a 'misery plant' than a 'mystery plant' ...

Re: Acanthocalycium glaucum

It's not particularly well-known and I think it's quite an underrated plant. There's a sort of Copiapoa-ish look to it when not in flower. It would make a good plant for the identification part of the Judges Weekend. Stuart And you can choose between yellow and red flowers! They're not very fast gr...

Re: A very rare Lithops

I had a few of those earlier this year, although they were closer to well done than rare. One interesting tidbit there is that it turns out pseudotruncatella is quite resistant to scorching, they survived where pretty much any other lithops (incl gracilidelineata, and Dinteranthus vanzylii) turned t...

More Gymnocalycium

I like the robust spines on some Gymnos, especially the various forms of spegazzinii/cardenasianum/castelanosii. It seems you can have a whole collection of spegazzinii and not have two similar plants. This is G. bozsingianum, now 9 years old. It's definitely not in a hurry, but I may have kept it b...

Parodia subterranea

I have only 2 Parodia s.s. in my collection, and both are subterraneas I sowed 6 or 7 years ago. They're by far my favorite Parodias - very neat, compact and with a lovely contrast between the body, the spines and the flowers. I have been looking for flowers for the past year or two, and it looks li...

Re: I can't wait

Mine just finished flowering. Large flowers with vibrant colors, definitely one of my favorites.

Re: Germination (or not) of Crassulacea seeds from Koehres

I expect Koehres doesn't harvest all the seeds from their own stock plants, but has some suppliers of their own. The only Echeveria I've ever sown from them (actually the only I've ever sown, period) was agavoides 'Ebony' a few years ago, okay germination at around 30 plants out of 100 seeds (more t...

Considering that it's likely the pollinators that are driving flower differentiation, does that imply that the blue bottle flies have a more refined taste than we give them credit for? :P

Re: More bulbine

Pointed leaves are a function of water and bright sunlight, but mostly water. If I water mine generously they all have transparent, pointed lead tips. Those tips will collapse and dry out if the plant is left dry for a few week (which I do on purpose, since I like them better with flat leaves). Ssp ...
